Tuesday Talk at Branson Centennial Museum Curtis Copeland, editorial author, and commentator for the late Vance Randolph's last book of collected Ozark folktales, Mildred, Quit Hollering! and Other Ozark Folktales, will discuss the history of the Randolph manuscript that went unpublished for over 40 years during the Branson Centennial Museum’s first Tuesday Talk of the new year, on February 20, 2024, at 12:30 pm. While compiling his latest book, Copeland researched the lives of the folktale tellers themselves. He will give a sample reading from the book and be available for book signings after the presentation. According to the book jacket summary, “…These folktales – nearly forty in all – represent some of the best stories assembled by Randolph over five decades of wandering the hills and hollers of the Missouri/Arkansas Ozark Mountains. It’s a celebration of the life and humor enjoyed by folks in rural America and assembled during Randolph’s final years…” The book also “includes the biographies of the men and women who originally passed each story along to Randolph, which makes for interesting reading in itself… This last compilation… is both a tribute to the late Vance Randolph, but also a reminder that people are still people wherever you go, and it’s okay to laugh at ourselves sometimes.”The Tuesday Talk series is presented free-of-charge by the Branson Centennial Museum and White River Valley Historical Society. Various topics of local and historical interest are presented by knowledgeable speakers on the third Tuesday of the month from 12:30 until 1:30 PM. The Museum is in historic Downtown Branson at 120 South Commercial Street, former home of Reish Shoes & Boots.
